August 18, 2004 2:05 pm Rubin eliminated in tennis by MauresmoATHENS, Greece - Chanda Rubin bowed out of the Olympics singles competition Wednesday afternoon, losing her third-round match 6-3, 6-1 to Amelie Mauresmo of France. A resident of Lafayette, La., Rubin jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first set, but Mauresmo, the world's second-ranked player, overpowered her from that point on. Boasting a serve that was 10 mph faster, Mauresmo scored eight aces to none for Rubin. The American didn't help her own cause with 33 unforced errors, 10 more than her opponent. The match took just 67 minutes to complete. Rubin, ranked 23rd in the world, declined comment after the match. She also competed in doubles with Venus Williams, but they were eliminated Monday by Ting Li and Tian Tian Sun of China. It was the first Olympics for the 28-year-old Rubin. She was selected for the 1996 team but couldn't compete because of injuries.
