Excerpted from From
Here to There by Larry Stuenkel
These questions
are similar to what you can expect during a real interview. Being
prepared will enable you to think on your feet.
The suggested replies, excerpted from From Here to There
by Larry Stuenkel, aren't intended to give you one correct answer.
Rather, the answers should reflect your personal frame of reference,
based on your motives, goals, work skills and aspirations. The replies
are meant to stimulate your thinking, not to be memorized.
Q: What can you do for us that someone else cannot?
This question asks you to compare yourself with someone you don't
know. Because you cannot address the unknown, you need to remove
the unknown from your answer.
"Mr./Ms. Recruiter, I do not know who you have spoken to, but specifically
I can do the following..."
In your answer, you should address the secret recipe question:
What is the company looking for in the successful candidate? Find
out what the company is looking for and then resell yourself to
their specific needs.
Repeat your professional experience from your resume to sell, resell
and sell yourself again. Constantly review your resume verbally,
because your potential interviewer may not be listening or may not
have caught all of the information. Refer to the accomplishments
and responsibilities listed on your resume. And don't be afraid
to repeat your selling points — your significant accomplishments
and your responsibilities.
