Here to There by Larry Stuenkel
These questions
are similar to what you can expect during a real interview. Being
prepared will enable you to think on your feet.
The suggested replies, excerpted from From Here to There
by Larry Stuenkel, aren't intended to give you one correct answer.
Rather, the answers should reflect your personal frame of reference,
based on your motives, goals, work skills and aspirations. The replies
are meant to stimulate your thinking, not to be memorized.
Q: How would you describe the essence of success?
This is an extremely interesting question because it requires you
to philosophize on your definition of success. Your answer should
be centered on business activities. Take one business activity and
weave your definition of success around these types of accomplishments
in your work.
If the interviewer asks if you consider yourself successful, you
may want to hold back from being overzealous and saying, "Yes, I
am successful." If you consider yourself successful, are there no
further objectives to obtain? No new mountains to climb?
If you are asked that follow-up question, say, "No, I am not successful
because when I start to reach my goals and objectives, I push them
up higher and continue to reach, stretch and grow." Success is a
journey, not an objective.
