These questions
are similar to what you can expect during a real interview. Being
prepared will enable you to think on your feet.
The suggested replies, excerpted from From Here to There
by Larry Stuenkel, aren't intended to give you one correct answer.
Rather, the answers should reflect your personal frame of reference,
based on your motives, goals, work skills and aspirations. The replies
are meant to stimulate your thinking, not to be memorized.
Q. How do you rate yourself as a professional? As an executive?
Another question could be, "How do you rate yourself as an employee?"
When answering questions like these, always rate yourself at the
top. For example, if you are given the question: "How would you
rank yourself among your peers," you should say, "I rank myself
number one."
"How would you rate yourself as an employee?" "I rate myself at
the top, at the very top." This is not bragging! If you are not
number one, then the employer may continue to search for his/her
number one choice. "How do you rate yourself as a husband/wife or
family member?" This answer might be suitable: "I would rate myself
as a professional a 10, as a business executive a 9, and as a husband/wife
or family member an 8 on the universal 10 scale."
If you are asked to explain your rating you could say, "As a professional
I simply see myself as a flat number 10. I am professional. As a
business executive I score a 9 because I feel I have very strong
qualifications and experience, but realize there are always more
things to learn to increase my skill knowledge. As a family member
or husband/wife, scoring myself an 8 was based on the fact that
I give a tremendous amount of my time to my job, my career and my
business. Sometimes this results in a sacrifice of personal time
to my family and personal life, therefore the scoring of an 8."
