Handle the difficult questions
Excerpted from From Here to There by Larry Stuenkel
These questions are similar to what you can expect during a real interview. Being prepared will enable you to think on your feet.

The suggested replies, excerpted from From Here to There by Larry Stuenkel, aren't intended to give you one correct answer. Rather, the answers should reflect your personal frame of reference, based on your motives, goals, work skills and aspirations. The replies are meant to stimulate your thinking, not to be memorized.

Q. How did you decide on this type of work?

Many people decide upon a line of work after they are offered a position. Sometimes for a position they did not expect, and other times for a job they have planned and strategized for.

In the process of finding employment, many potential employees run an aggressive job campaign and are offered positions that result from a direct mail letter, or maybe from a network contact, reaching heights they never thought that they would achieve. Smaller companies may offer you a position that was not in your original game plan but is one where you wear many hats.

If you are asked the question of how you decided on a type of work, you could answer, "After considering the position, considering the skills that would be required, as well as the opportunity for professional growth and the other pluses of the company, this position met my goals and objectives."
